Dog Parks

General Information

Parks Operated by Brevard County In most parks dogs are not allowed with the exception of service animals and animals that are authorized for sponsored events. However, subject to specific conditions, dogs are allowed at parks listed below. The possibility of other designated dog areas is currently under discussion in the Department's citizen committees and advisory boards (see County Code below).

Brevard County Code Sec. 14-60

Public parks and beaches. (a) No animal shall be permitted or allowed on any public park or beach; provided, however, that an area in public parks may be designated for animals by resolution of the board, or by the governing body of any applicable municipality. In that event, the area provided for animals must be properly identified and posted by the county of appropriate municipality.

Public Beaches

With the exception of service animals, dogs are not allowed on public beaches in Brevard County

Brevard County Code Sec.14-59

No animal shall be permitted to defecate or urinate on public property. It shall be the responsibility of the owner or person in control of the animal to dispose of or remove excretions caused by the animal.

Municipal Parks

City of Satellite Beach Dog Park located at Satellite Beach Sports & Recreation Park next to the library on Jamaica Boulevard is designed for dogs and their owners -- it is open from dawn to dusk. For information, contact the City of Satellite Beach for details.

Additionally, other municipalities in Brevard County operate their own parks and may have rules that differ from Brevard County operated parks—a complete listing of those agencies is available.

Dogs on Short Leash

Parks

Sand Point Park - Short leash only

Lori Wilson Park - Short leash and only from parking lot to Dog Park

Palm Bay Regional Park - Short leash and only from parking lot to Dog Park

Wickham Park - In park, on short leash only, but prohibited around lake, picnic areas and playground, and at the Dog Park

Boat Ramps

Parks with Boat Ramps - Short leash and only when leading a dog from vehicle to boat

Campgrounds

Long Point Park - Camping patrons only; short leash only

Manatee Hammock - Camping patrons only; short leash only

Wickham Park - In park, on short leash only, but prohibited around lake, picnic areas and playground, and at the Dog Park

Lori Wilson Park Off-Leash Dog Park

The Lori Wilson Dog Park is a 32,000 square foot fenced,off-leash area with large dog and small dog areas. All dog park users are required to register their dog with the attendant on duty. A record of current vaccinations is required. All dogs must wear a current Brevard County license tag. Visitors from outside Brevard County must have the equivalent license tag from the governing authority of their place of residence (city, county, state), along with current license/tag and shot record. Outside the Dog Park, dogs are allowed in parking lot only and must be on short leash.

Palm Bay Regional Park Off-Leash Dog Park

A 40,000 sq. ft. fenced, off-leash area with large and small dog zones. All Dog Park users are required to register their dog with the attendant at the Dog Park. A record of current vaccinations is required. All dogs must wear a current Brevard County license tag. Visitors from outside Brevard County must have the equivalent license tag from the governing authority of their place of residence (city, county, state), along with current license/tag and shot record. Outside the Dog Park, dogs are allowed in parking lot only and must be on short leash.

Wickham Park Off-Leash Dog Park

A fenced, off-leash area with large and small dog zones. All Dog Park users are required to register their dog with the attendant at the Dog Park. A record of current vaccinations is required. All dogs must wear a current Brevard County license tag. Visitors from outside Brevard County must have the equivalent license tag from the governing authority of their place of residence (city, county, state), along with current license/tag and shot record. Outside of the Dog Park dogs must be on short leash only, and are prohibited around lakes, picnic areas and playgrounds.

Park Open Hours

Unless designated otherwise, Brevard County Parks open after 7:00 a.m. and close at dark.

Parks with Community Centers and Athletic Facilities are open after dark for scheduled activities. Operating hours for Community Centers and Nature Centers may be obtained by contacting the specific facility.

Boat Ramps are open 24 hours a day.
